The Government is providing additional funding of over £450 million over the 3 academic years 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/16 to improve the provision of Physical Education and sport in Primary Schools. This money is allocated to Primary Schools to choose how they spend the money. The funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on improving Physical Education and sport in schools.
Schools receive PE and Sport Premium Funding based on the number of pupils in years 1 to 6. The number of pupils at a school who attract the funding is determined using data from the January school census. Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils receive £8,000 and an additional payment per pupil.
Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer.
