'The curriculum is both varied and interesting, with additional opportunities to engage and give pupils different experiences'

The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (Reception Classes)

During their first year of school, Reception aged pupils follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS). This is a continuation of the curriculum that they will have followed in other early years settings before starting school. Please click here to access our ‘Welcome to Reception’ booklet for parents and carers. Here you can find out about the Reception curriculum as well as other useful information about your child’s first year at Fynamore.

The National Curriculum (Years 1 to 6)

As you may be aware, the Government released the new National Curriculum in 2014. This curriculum replaced the National Curriculum published in 1990 which we have been following in our school for many years. The curriculum was statutory for Years 1, 3, 4 and 5 in the academic year 2014- 2015. From academic year 2015 - 2016, the new National Curriculum is statutory for all classes in KS1 and KS2.

A parent's guide to the new National Curriculum can be accessed here.

Due to these changes, the school has purchased a scheme of work by the curriculum provisions company 'Prospects'. The Prospects curriculum addresses all of the requirements of the new National Curriculum and uses a topic-based approach to learning. In the past, the children have had 3 topics per year. Now, the children will have 6 topics, one per term. All of the topics are new and cross curricular. The themes are vibrant and engaging and will inspire learning.  You can visit the Prospects website here.

The Government has increased their expectations of attainment in Mathematics and English. For this reason, we have adapted our planning and policies to reflect these changes.

A guide to Assessment in the National Cutrriculum: Guide booklet (print out and fold to booklet) can provide further guidance on the assessment.

The school's Curriculum Policy provides information on the school's curriculum.

The current topics that the children are studying in school can be found in the latest topic webs.
