The Reflection Garden has been designed and created by the children at Fynamore. We work all year round in the garden, providing and caring for all aspects of the garden. This includes growing, flowers, herbs, vegetables, fruits and encouraging wildlife. The popular garden pit stop is open most lunchtimes for some children to help upkeep the garden over the seasons.
Our Reflection Garden provides a therapeutic environment, using plants and gardening to improve physical and mental health, as well as communication and thinking skills. It also creates a safe and secure space for children to develop the ability to mix socially, make friends and learn practical skills to gain independence.
Everything in the garden has been planted and cared for by the children and any produce we harvest is shared out for them to take home or we hold regular after school produce sales. All money raised is used to buy new tools, seeds or equipment.
The last two years we have entered the garden into the South West in Bloom and were awarded the highest level of ‘Outstanding’. We also won Gold and were awarded overall winner of the Schools category for Calne in Bloom for the last three years. Last year (2017) we gained a regional award, being awarded the Virador School Composting award for the whole of the South West of England.
